8 Tips for Improving Your Nutrition in 2019

Written By North Florida Spine and Wellness Institute on January 8, 2019

Do you pay attention to the foods you eat? 2019 is a great time to get focused on improving your nutrition. Seeing a nutritionist and getting nutrition counseling can assist you in making all of the right food choices.

What Does Improving Your Nutrition Look Like?

Studies have shown that living on a plant-based diet can alter your health in some positive ways. People that have changed to this type of diet, cutting out animal byproducts, have found greater health, from reduced cholesterol and lowered blood pressure, to weight loss, improved nutrition without meat can change your life.

Of the dozens of other healthy things you can do, here are some you should do for your wellness.

1. Eat More Vegetables and Fruit

You can get all of the vitamins and minerals you need for overall health through vegetables. You don't need meat in order to get protein – It can also be found in beans, legumes, and various vegetables.

2. Add Healthy Fats

Skip the fried foods, pass on cheese, and make healthier fat choices. Use avocado in place of cheese, eat fresh fish, and cook with the right oils.

3. Make Wiser Oil Choices

Pass on the canola oil. Use something healthier, like coconut oil or olive oil.

4. Eat Fiber

Fiber keeps your system regular. A healthy digestive system will help you maintain a healthy weight and could help with digestive issues (like diarrhea and constipation).

5. Make Healthy Swaps

Skip junk food and make healthy snacking choices. Eat fresh fruit to curb your sweet tooth and have some carrots or pickles to curb your need for crunchy or salty snacks.

6. Season Your Food Without Salt

Table salt or sea salt, it's all still salt. Season with fresh herbs, garlic and onion powder, and other spices for more flavor.

7. Slow Down

Don't be in such a hurry to eat. The longer it takes to prepare a meal, the healthier it might be (fresh vegetables take some prep). It's also smart to skip fast food and make healthy stuff at home.

8. See a Nutritionist

Your Tallahassee nutrition specialist will help you get on the right dietary path. Skip fad diets and talk to someone that knows how to eat for good health.
